Hallam International Family Fun Day
Saturday 5th July, 2008
Our Annual Fun Day this year proved to be another roaring succes, and we are now working on next year's event. Co-operation between the Community Association, Hallam School PTA, and St. Luke's Church has been excellent, and we expect to continue in the same vein in 2009.
The Fancy Dress Parade left Lodge Moor Shops on Rochester Road at 12.30 pm, led by a Salsa Band, with children in costumes celebrating the theme "Save the Planet". It made it's way through the local streets until it arrived at 1 pm in the Hallam School Field, when the Fun Day officially started.
There were be dozens of fantastic fun things to do and see, with a very busy programme of displays taking place in the central arena. Throughout the afternoon we were entertained, in one way or another, by the following:
Tapton Youth
Brass Band
Face Painting
Balloon Modelling
Hoola Hoop Demonstration
Bouncy Castle
International Food Stalls
PTA Cafe
Licensed Bar
Charcoal Barbeque
Entertainers from Swamp Circus
Dog Training Demonstration
"Clicker" Chicken Training
Friends of Porter Valley
Children's Painting Competition
Ice Cream, and lots, lots more
We are also very pleased to announce that we were graced by the presence of the Lord and Lady Mayoress of Sheffield, who judged the Painting Competition.
Despite the rather unfriendly weather forecast on the day, we planned for events to take place either outdoors or indoors, and we certainly did have a mixed day. Nevertheless, the plan worked, and very few interruptions were necessary. We were graced by a large crowd of local people, who all reported a tremendous day out, and this all embracing community event proved once again that co-operation between local organisations can bring about something special. We look forward with great anticipation to 2009 - watch this space!
Birkdale Field
We are delighted to report that the application for planning permission and change of use was withdrawn by Birkdale School. In addition, we are also pleased to note that the Sheffield Development Framework, which is currently being put together by Sheffield City Council and is now in the "Preferred Options" Stage of Consultation, continues to retain the playing field as Green Belt land, and that there is no intention to change this.
This is an extract of Map 7 of the Sheffield Development Plan, which can be viewed on the Sheffield Council Website
Crimicar Lane Cricket Ground Project
A second meeting to explain Hallam Cricket Club’s
proposals for the Crimicar Lane site is to be held on 15 August, at
8.00pm, at Hallam Community Hall. Local residents are invited to come
along and give their views on the proposals, prior to a planning application
being submitted.
Hallam
Cricket Club has signed a 30 year lease with landowners Birkdale School for
the Crimicar Lane site. While the site used to be a cricket ground some years
ago, there will be a lot of work required to bring it back into use. The main
features of the project will comprise
- a new cicket pitch
- off-road parking
- additional fencing and other boundary treatments
- refurbishment of the changing rooms building.
It is also envisaged that parts of the ground will be used for junior football in the winter months.
A public meeting was held for residents adjoining the site on 6 June, 2008, and a stall was used to provide further information at the Hallam Fun Day on 5 July. The public meeting on 15 August will include a draft layout plan, for local residents to comment on before a planning application is submitted.
The club is embarking on a major fund-raising effort, because the improvements will cost a substantial sum. It is envisaged that most of the work will not be undertaken until next year, ready to play cricket from 2010 onwards.
Hallam
Cricket Club is always keen to attract new members and supporters. For further
information, or if you cannot attend the meeting on 15 August, please contact
the Club Secretary, Richard Storer, at storers@moorcroftclose.f9.co.uk
Police Changes for our Area

There are also Community Support Officers on the team, and our Safer Neighbourhood Officer is Caroline Jennings, who can be contacted on 07917517471. Her e-mail address is caroline.jennings@southyorks.pnn.police.uk
For general policing/community enquiries or information please contact the "Golden Line" on 0114 2964876 (It may be an answerphone but they will respond as soon as possible).
The normal Police Switchboard is 0114 2202020, and anyone who wishes to give information anonymously is encouraged to phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
It is intended that this page will read like a local newspaper or magazine, providing local information, news and gossip. We are presently recruiting contributors on a variety of subjects, and we would be very grateful for anyone who feels they would like to take part. You would be required to provide a short piece on your chosen subject (e.g. this month's garden, the countryside just now, local council news, a short story, local football results, etc., etc.) and forward it to a particular person each month (initially this might be every three months until we recruit enough helpers). If you would like to be involved in any way, please contact Graham Blincow on 230 4108, or by e-mail on info@hcya.org.uk
