Hallam Art Group

We meet weekly on Thursday evenings 7.30 to 9.30 pm in the main hall of Hallam Community Hall. We have a membership of 75 who give support to the group both in the exhibition of paintings and in the day to day running of the group.

We hold exhibitions in the Hall in Spring and November, in the Botanical Gardens in August, and a number of our members continue to exhibit at the Great Sheffield Art Show, held in the Octagon Centre. In 2009 we held an exhibition in Sheffield Cathedral. We continue to exhibit in the Doctors' Surgeries at Blackbrook Road and Broomhill, and in the Forge Dam Cafe.

We do not prove lessons at our meetings, but have enjoyed very interesting and informative demonstrations and workshops. The Art Group is held in a very friendly and sociable atmosphere, and help and advice is always readily available from our professional members. At present we have a waiting list (when vacancies arise priority is given to people residing in the Hallam area).

If you wish to add your name to our waiting list please contact our Secretary, Judith Hanson (0114 268 1505).

Walking

Attention all walkers!

Short and Longer Walks ...... known as "The Walkie Talkies".

Shorter walks take place every fortnight on Thursday mornings and are between 3 and 4 miles. These walks are led by Reg, who keeps us fully informed with his entertaining and informative anecdotes, so that we all return home fitter and wiser.

Longer walks are led on alternate Thursdays by Keith, and are around 7 to 8 miles long. These walks offer more of a challenge but are all taken at a moderate pace. Additional longer walks are held once a month on Fridays and they are led by various members of the Thursday walking groups and coordinated by John.

All ages are most welcome. If you would like to try this fun and beneficial form of exercise then some suitable foorwear, outerwear, a packed lunch and your enthusiasm are all that are needed to take part. All walks start at 10.30 am with all venues arranged in advance. an optional visit to the local hostelry afterwards always helps to resore out drained energy reserves.

Wine Guild

Our fortnightly wine tasting sessions take place in Hallam Community Hall, either with cheese and biscuits, some nibbles, or food appropriate to the wine. Tastings are on various topics and include wines from a specific region or specific grape. There are occasional special events with a meal, such as Burn's Night and Valantines Night. We also arrange for wine suppliers or guests to come along and talk to us, obviously with samples of their wine (e.g. Majestic Wines, La Tasca, and various supermarkets).

We are a very active and extremely social group that meets every other Thursday at 8 pm in the Community Hall. If you are interested in joining please give our Chairman Ken a call, and arrage a visit. If you enjoy the evening then your name can be placed on our waiting list. Unfortunately, we are limited by how many members we can seat in the room, and our membership is full for 2010/11, with a quite long waiting list.
